This 2015 SCCJR lecture, ‘What is Wrong with Penal Populism?’ considers the proper role of public opinion, penal expertise and political leadership in the shaping of criminal justice policy.
Biography: David Garland, FRSE, FBA is the Arthur T. Vanderbilt Professor of Law and Professor of Sociology at New York University and a Professorial Fellow at Edinburgh University School of Law. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and taught there from 1979 to 1997.
The lecture will commence at 6.00pm with a post-lecture buffet starting around 7.15 pm. The lecture and buffet are free and open to all. Currently 120 people have registered, so please book early to avoid disappointment…
